Shopify will store your credit card data for a direct payment gateway to complete your purchase. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Only as long as it is necessary to complete your purchase transaction, your purchase transaction will be stored. Your purchase transaction information is deleted after completion.

PCI Security Standards Council is managing all direct payment gateways to adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS. It is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
